BARIATRIC SURGERY – HUNTSVILLE, AL
What is Obesity?
Obesity is a syndrome that results from an excess accumulation of body fat. The reasons behind obesity are many and complex. There are both external and internal reasons why someone might eat excess calories.
Externally, our world is saturated with food opportunities. One cannot even go to a home improvement store without having the opportunity to purchase candy and salty snacks. New services have made it easier to have food delivered to us. Portions sizes have increased over time and these encourage us to eat more.
Internally, we fight against hunger, cravings, and genetics.
Obesity not only affects the number on the scale but also can seriously impact your health. Many diseases are caused by or related to obesity. These include the common diseases that most people think about when thinking about obesity – like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
Many other diseases are also directly related – like breast and colon cancer, sleep apnea, joint pain, and infertility from diseases like polycystic ovarian syndrome, reflux disease, blood clots, and gallbladder problems.
What are my Weight Loss Options?

Dr. Boyett also performs his endoscopy before weight loss surgery to provide complete care.
What is Bariatric Surgery?
Bariatric Surgery simply means weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgeries can help when diet and exercise have not worked or when you have serious health problems because of your weight.
You have probably heard of bariatric surgery referred to as a tool. Surgery is not just a tool, but a strong and precise instrument you can use to achieve weight loss goals that have previously been out of reach.
Your surgeon and dietitian will also help you develop other complimentary items for your toolbox. You need to be prepared for any scenario and the more options you have, the better prepared you will be. What do you do when you are surrounded by food such as at a party or event? How do you address the well-stocked break room at work? Eating used to be your answer to boredom or stress. What will your new answer be?
Everyone who needs bariatric surgery faces different challenges and has separate abilities and distinct goals for life after surgery. Your surgeon and dietitian will teach you new behaviors and actions that when combined with the positive effects of surgery will help you realize your goals and be powerful adversaries in your fight against obesity.
